Dramatic video shows a Florida man violently robbing an 83-year-old woman just moments after she collected lottery winnings.

The suspect Diego Tavarez Fleury, 24, was taken into custody after the incident outside Buddy's Food and Lotto in Orlando.

Surveillance footage captured Tavarez Fleury approaching Ruth Monroe as she was getting in the car and showed him attempting to snatch her winnings before being confronted by the store manager. 

Monroe told local NBC affiliate WESH: 'I'm 83, I've never gotten punched. But that look on his face - he was about ready to, you know - and that's when he pulled it out of my hand and went that way.'

Although the suspect initially appeared to step back, he lunged at Monroe again, resulting in a struggle that dragged him to the ground and left her with an injured hand.

The store manager and an employee attempted to intervene. Despite their efforts, Fleury escaped, stealing approximately $200 from Monroe.

Orange County deputies said they had received a tip that Fleury was hiding in his mom's home and planning to fly back to the Dominican Republic. 

When law enforcement found him, Fleury tried attempted to flee but was detained.

Fleury is charged with robbery and battery. He is also being tried for หวยฮานอย possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The incident happened on January 15.

When Monroe returned to the gas station the next morning, a customer who overheard her situation, gifted her a $250 check along with some lottery tickets.

He also gifted a Powerball ticket to the manager who wrestled the thief to the ground the day before. 

Ae Sun Lee, a store employee, praised the manager's bravery, saying: 'He always helps people. Not only this person. Always.'




Monroe sustained injuries to her hand, but is in stable condition

Sun Lee noted that Monroe is a regular customer who enjoys playing the lottery. 

Lee also recognized the suspect, describing him as a troublemaker who often loitered outside but was not a regular customer.
