The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Clean them as needed. Some models can also automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other top iRobot models (including the top pick), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has a perfect 10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuums uk we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum with mop uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot cleaner with mop to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that vacuum and mop that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
